HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

relating to the honoring of mrs. leslie ku`uleinanionapua lam, for her winning the title of mrs. america 2001.

 

 

WHEREAS, while the natural beauty of Hawaii is recognized throughout the world, the real beauty of our island-state lies in it's people, who, through their outstanding accomplishments give pride and inspiration to all the people of Hawaii and inasmuch the Legislature of the State of Hawaii is proud to recognize the achievements of those talented individuals who epitomize the spirit of ALOHA; and

WHEREAS, LESLIE LAM, a stunningly attractive and talented young lady who has brought honor to her native state, by being crowned Mrs. America 2001, a title awarded at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on September 1, 2000; and

WHEREAS, LESLIE LAM, born Leslie Ku`uleinanionapua Marques, was raised on the beautiful windward side of the island of Oahu, a student of St. Francis High School for Girls, where she was elected Student Body President, and would represent the State of Hawaii at the Miss Teen Pageant in Albuquerque, New Mexico, winning both the gown and interview competitions; and

WHEREAS, LESLIE LAM received further honors by being crowned Mrs. Hawaii in May of 2000 at the Sheraton Waikiki, a title achieved despite undergoing serious challenges to her health; and

WHEREAS, LESLIE LAM presently resides in Hauula, and devotes herself to teaching the children of Hauula Elementary School to read, while at home she lovingly cares for her children, Amber and Matthew, and affirms her love, faith and commitment to her husband Mervyn; and

WHEREAS, LESLIE LAM, Mrs. America, is not only an exemplary ambassador for the State of Hawaii, but for the United States of America, who has offered her God-given talents, grace and selfless commitment to spread goodwill, peace, hope and friendship; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that this body hereby commends and congratulates LESLIE ANNE KU`ULEINANIONAPUA LAM for winning the title of MRS. AMERICA 2001 and touching the hearts of the people of Hawaii, and extends to her and her family its warmest ALOHA, a heartfelt appreciation and best regards for continued success in all future endeavors.
