honoring the memory of cliff bailey and extending condolences and sympathy to his family.
WHEREAS, on January 19, 2001, ROBERT CLIFTON "CLIFF" BAILEY, Kapaa Elementary Principal and pioneering leader of education, suddenly departed to the bereavement of his family, his many friends, the students and staff at Kapaa Elementary School, and a loss to the citizens of the State of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, CLIFF BAILEY deserves to be remembered as one of the heroes of public education in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, CLIFF BAILEY taught by example what it means to be a real educational leader; and
WHEREAS, CLIFF BAILEY was a model for what a principal can be; and
WHEREAS, CLIFF BAILEY had the courage to pursue what he felt best even though his path departed from the one taken by the Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, CLIFF BAILEY was willing to risk his personal interests and his own professional future for the interests of the children of Kapaa; and
WHEREAS, CLIFF BAILEY strove to make the experience of school a happier and more beneficial one for his students; and
WHEREAS, CLIFF BAILEY worked diligently to empower and assist the teachers at Kapaa Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, CLIFF BAILEY worked to build a genuine professional community among his teachers; and
WHEREAS, CLIFF BAILEY'S accomplishments were noted and cited by school reformers across the nation; and
WHEREAS, CLIFF BAILEY was a warm, compassionate, gentle human being who was loved and will be missed by many; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that this body hereby honors the memory of ROBERT CLIFTON "CLIFF" BAILEY and extends its condolences and sympathy to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to his wife Fahy; his son Kaulana; his mother, Amelia; his sister, Beryl Blaich; and his brothers, James, Speed and John.
