COMMENDING AND HONORING PAST MEMBERS OF THE HAWAII STATE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE TO HAWAII.
WHEREAS, elective office in service to the public is a noble calling and a privilege bestowed upon a select group of men and women through the popular vote of the people; and
WHEREAS, the State Legislature, Hawaii's ultimate governing body, is designed by law to convene in session for but a portion of the calendar year, thus encouraging wide participation by the general citizenry; and
WHEREAS, in answering the call to serve as a representative of the people, a citizen yields entitlement to a normal lifestyle and endures an extended period of self-sacrifice, public scrutiny, and personal accountability; and
WHEREAS, in faithfully carrying out all duties demanded of an elected representative under the longstanding traditions and practices of the House of Representatives of the State of Hawaii, these individuals merit a place of distinction and respect in the chronicles of modern Hawaii; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that this body hereby honors and commends these Representatives for their numerous years of distinguished public service and accords its highest recognition for their selfless dedication and work on behalf of all the people of Hawaii.
