HONORING five AMERICAN MOTHERS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO CHILDREN, FAMILY, COMMUNITY AND STATE.
WHEREAS, American Mothers Inc., is dedicated to honoring Mothers who have not only positively influenced the growth and development of their own children, but also the lives of countless children in their communities and the State of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, American Mothers Inc. has, for more than 60 years, contributed in many positive ways to American society by focusing their efforts on preserving the moral and spiritual foundation of the family through educational, cultural, and spiritual programs for Mothers of all walks of life; and
WHEREAS, there is no job more important than the nurturing, training, and loving of children as they grow, and Mothers are working 365 days a year putting in 16 and 18-hour days on that important job; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Association of American Mothers, Inc., was established in 1995, with the purpose of being a dedicated force to strengthen the moral and spiritual foundations of the family and the home; and
WHEREAS, SUSAN NOANOA CRAVENS KUNZ who was selected by the Hawaii Association of American Mothers, Inc., as their Young Mother Representative for the year 2000, has been honored again in 2001 by being elected the President of the Hawaii Association of American Mothers, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, TRINETTE PARRAGA KAU`I was born and raised on the island of Kauai, graduated from Kauai High School, attended the University of Hawaii and earned her AA degree from Kauai Community College in 1991; and
WHEREAS, TRINETTE PARRAGA KAU`I joined A&B Properties, Inc., in 1983 as a clerk-typist, and now holds the position of Property Manager and Broker in Charge; and
WHEREAS, TRINETTE PARRAGA KAU`I is the past President of the Rotary club, and serves on the Kauai Medical Clinic Board, Kauai Workforce Investment Board, the Governor's Highway Safety Council, and the Salvation Army; and
WHEREAS, TRINETTE PARRAGA KAU`I is married to Wesley Kau`i and has two sons, Donovan (15) who attends the Kamehameha Schools, and Dustin (11) who attends Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School; and
WHEREAS, TRINETTE PARRAGA KAU`I has been selected as the Hawaii Mother of the Year 2001, by the Hawaii Association of American Mothers, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, KATHRYN HO was born Kathryn (Kathy) Kahokuhealani Awai in Inglewood, California to Kakela and Toni Awai, and is the second of seven children; and
WHEREAS, KATHRYN HO grew up in Providence, Utah, graduating from Mountain Crest High School in 1990, attended BYU-Provo, and graduated cum laude from BYU-Hawaii in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in Special Education; and
WHEREAS, while at BYU-Hawaii, KATHRYN HO danced at the Polynesian Cultural Center, coordinated and made arrangements for BYU-Hawaii's Performance Series, and then worked as a concierge in the Aloha Center; and
WHEREAS, KATHRYN HO married Kyle Kaipo Ho in 1994, and they reside in Pearl City, Hawaii, with their two children, Alexandria Kamaleiku'upu'uwai (5-1/2) and Ammon Kalaniki'eki'eilunalilo (3-1/2); and
WHEREAS, KATHRYN HO has been selected as the Hawaii Young Mother Representative for the Year 2001, by the Hawaii Association of American Mothers, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO, born in Wahiawa, educated at St. Andrew’s Priory and received a BBA at the University of Hawaii and now raises a family and pursues a career in Aiea, Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO and her husband Edwin are the proud parents of a son, Eddie, and supply him with the love and support needed for him to grow in a caring environment; and
WHEREAS, as a community volunteer, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO has given of her time and energy serving extensively at her son’s school and serving as chair of the American Optometric Association Paraoptometric Section, being the editor of their national newsletter and a writer of many other national eye related articles; and
WHEREAS, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO has successfully managed her career as an optician with her responsibilities as a mother while never wavering in her commitment to the tenets of patience, love, and humility, which family relationships require, and that the family is the building block of society and brings life’s greatest fulfillment; and
WHEREAS, she understands that raising a family includes the concepts that parents must be an integral part of a child’s learning process and must take time to provide moral guidance and spiritual nurturing, and that these concepts are central to the philosophy of American Mothers Inc.; and
WHEREAS, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO has been selected as the Hawaii Merit Mother for the Year 2001, by the Hawaii Association of American Mothers, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, LANETTE HO CHING was born Lanette Harmon in Phoenix, Arizona, one of seven children, six of which were daughters; and
WHEREAS, LANETTE HO CHING graduated with honors from Mountain View High School, and attended B.Y.U.-Hawaii, where she met the eternal love of her life, Francis Ho Ching of American Samoa, and became Lanette "Harmon" Ho Ching; and
WHEREAS, LANETTE HO CHING and her husband live in Laie with their five beautiful children; and
WHEREAS, LANETTE HO CHING, when not playing with her children, enjoys singing, dancing, aerobics, piano playing, and creative writing; and
WHEREAS, LANETTE HO CHING has been selected as the Hawaii Honor Mother for the Year 2001, by the Hawaii Association of American Mothers, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, SARAH PETERSON was born in Burley, Idaho and grew up in the little town of Rexburg, Idaho; and
WHEREAS, SARAH PETERSON attended her local junior college, Ricks College, received an Associates degree in Accounting, and married her husband, Daniel Peterson; and
WHEREAS, SARAH PETERSON worked to put her husband through BYU in Provo, Utah, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Economics; and
WHEREAS, SARAH PETERSON and her husband lived in Salt Lake City where their first daughter, Sydney Irene, was born; and
WHEREAS, SARAH PETERSON and her husband happily relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii, where they have resided for the past two years, received their second daughter, Morgan Alani, and are expecting the arrival of their third daughter around March 30; and
WHEREAS, SARAH PETERSON has been selected as the Hawaii Honor Mother for the Year 2001, by the Hawaii Association of American Mothers, Inc.; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that this body congratulates and commends TRINETTE PARRAGA KAU`I, KATHRYN HO, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO, LANETTE HO CHING, and SARAH PETERSON, who have been chosen by the Hawaii Association of American Mothers Inc., as Mothers of the Year 2001, for their noteworthy contributions to their children, families, communities, and State, and expresses its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.
