Report Title:

Congratulating Kahuku High School Football Varsity team.

WHEREAS, some sports victories embody the best and most exciting aspects of athletics, and can be appreciated by all, so compelling is their storyline; and

WHEREAS, there is no more thrilling event in sports than when David truly slays Goliath, and a supposedly overmatched team simply refuses to bend to public opinion, earning a victory through preparation and the sheer force of will; and

WHEREAS, although St. Louis had beaten their opponents this season by an average of over 40 points per contest, the KAHUKU HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM never saw itself as an underdog, and played dominating football as if they were not even slightly intimidated, resulting in a 26-20 victory in the State High School Football Championship; and

WHEREAS, when the KAHUKU HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM defeated their heavily favored opponent who had been ranked fifth in the country, the entire State savored in their triumph; and

WHEREAS, despite the enormous accomplishment of the KAHUKU squad, the spirit of a collective win was encouraged by the team's Coach Siuaki Livai, who openly credited all of the Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) football teams for their efforts; and

WHEREAS, KAHUKU's State Championship is the first to be claimed by the OIA in fourteen years, and showed decisively that hard work, persistence, and confidence can accomplish anything; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that this body hereby congratulates and commends the KAHUKU HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM on its exciting triumph in the State Football Championship, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for more championships and further success to the deserving victors.
