Report Title:

WHEREAS, the Legislature takes great pride in recognizing and honoring the superb achievements and notable contributions of citizens who, through their extraordinary dedication and personal efforts, significantly improve the quality of life for the people of this State; and

WHEREAS, in 1974, DIANE YUKIHIRO CHANG graduated from Roosevelt High School and started off on a path to a career in journalism, graduating from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Journalism, and later serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Hawaii Business Magazine; and

WHEREAS, in 1993, DIANE YUKIHIRO CHANG's career aspirations were fulfilled when she was appointed Senior Editor and Editorial Page Editor of the Honolulu Star Bulletin and spent eight memorable years in this position, regularly authoring insightful opinions on current events, social issues and government; and

WHEREAS, in the course of her work at the Honolulu Star Bulletin, DIANE YUKIHIRO CHANG became known as a person who was not solely concerned about pleasing the powers that be, nor afraid to make tough decisions that might anger the establishment; and

WHEREAS, DIANE YUKIHIRO CHANG has used her considerable writing skills to create a public forum where readers could exchange ideas on how to improve our beloved island State and the world; and

WHEREAS, in her work and life, DIANE YUKIHIRO CHANG was a supporter of women in our community and used her talents to uplift the status and explain many of the issues facing women in our society and State today; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that this body hereby congratulates DIANE YUKIHIRO CHANG for her eight years of service as Senior Editor, Editorial Page Editor, and Columnist of the Honolulu Star Bulletin, commends her for her support of women in our community, and extends to her its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
