HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

HONORING AND COMMENDING THE WAIKIKI CITIZEN'S PATROL AND THE VISITOR ALOHA SOCIETY OF HAWAII FOR SPREADING SAFETY AND ALOHA IN WAIKIKI.

 

 

WHEREAS, Hawaii has an international reputation as the "Aloha State" because of the hospitality, generosity, and kindness shown to our visitors from around the world; and

WHEREAS, "Aloha," the working philosophy of native Hawaiians and their gift to world, means having mutual regard and affection for and extending warmth and caring to others, with no obligation in return; and

WHEREAS, two local organizations, the Waikiki Citizen's Patrol and the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii exemplify all that is embodied in the true meaning of the Aloha spirit; and

WHEREAS, the Waikiki Citizen's Patrol empowers the residents to protect each other from crime, to help in emergencies, and to inform the proper authorities about street, utility and other public problems, and;

WHEREAS, since the Waikiki Citizen's Patrol's inception, Waikiki has become better, cleaner and safer through their vigilance by preventing crimes, reporting fires, assisting the mentally ill, intimidating drug-dealers, and rendering on-the-spot assistance to residents and non-residents alike; and

WHEREAS, the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii's mission is to share the Aloha Spirit with visitors victimized by crime or adversity and have done so countless times through actions by their dedicated, loving volunteers who give freely from their hearts while assisting visitors in the time of need; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that this body honor and commend the Waikiki Citizen's Patrol and the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii for spreading safety and aloha in Waikiki.
