RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR'S SPECIAL ASSISTANT ON HOUSING TO CONVENE A ROUNDTABLE TASK FORCE TO DEVELOP A LONG-TERM PLAN TO BUILD MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR FAMILIES, KUPUNa, AND THE HOMELESS.
WHEREAS, the housing market in Hawaii continues to be one of the most expensive in the country for not only homeowners but renters as well; and
WHEREAS, providing decent, safe, and affordable housing for the people of our State appears to be a perpetual problem that defies legislative action; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii's slow economic recovery has not helped those in need of housing, especially the poor, the elderly, and the homeless; and
WHEREAS, before any viable solution can be proposed to the housing problem, a comprehensive overall plan must be developed to identify the organizations and agencies involved in housing in Hawaii and the objectives, goals, and plans of each; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, the Senate concurring, that the Legislature requests the Governor's Special Assistant on Housing to convene a roundtable task force to develop a long-term plan to build more affordable housing for families, kupuna, and the homeless; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor's Special Assistant on Housing is requested to include in the roundtable task force: the Housing and Community Development Corporation of Hawaii, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, the various county planning departments, representatives from the private and financial sectors, and any other representatives the Governor's Special Assistant deems appropriate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Chairperson of the Housing and Community Development Corporation of Hawaii, the Chairperson of the Hawaiian Homes Commission, the Chairperson of the Board of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and the Directors of the various county planning departments.
