A BILL FOR AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR LANAKILA MULTI-PURPOSE SENIOR CENTER.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the Lanakila multi-purpose senior center has served the elderly population in the urban core of Honolulu since 1969. The center is operated by Catholic Charities and serves two thousand six hundred forty senior citizens with a wide range of social services. Catholic Charities has supported the operations of the center above and beyond what is provided by government funding of programs. The senior center is in need of capital improvements that it cannot afford from program funding.
The purpose of this Act is to make an appropriation for improvements for the Lanakila multi-purpose senior center.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $505,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002 for the following improvement projects for the Lanakila multi-purpose senior center:
(1) Toilet rooms; repair and renovation of floor tiles, sewers, lighting, ventilation, and provision of handicapped accessible stalls -- $120,000;
(2) Stage area; repair or replace with new fixed stage, stairs, and wheelchair lift -- $95,000;
(3) "GO" room; repair and renovation of floors, walls, wood exterior doors, and roof exhaust fan -- $35,000;
(4) All exterior doors; remove existing doors and replace with new handicapped and code approved type -- $115,000;
(5) Corridors; replace cracked and broken floor tiles -- $65,000;
(6) Kitchen building; remove and replace existing cooking equipment and associated items; replace existing exterior doors and hardware -- $15,000;
(7) Courtyard; repair and renovation of walkway and concrete gutter downspout splash blocks -- $20,000; and
(8) Sewer-line; repair to correct backup after a heavy rain -- $40,000.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of accounting and general services for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $1 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002 to continue to support funding for the program.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the executive office on aging for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
