A BILL FOR AN ACT
making an appropriation for textbooks.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $6,042,330, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002, to purchase textbooks; provided that the sum appropriated:
(1) Shall be used to eliminate the shortage of textbooks only in secondary schools;
(2) Shall be distributed only on the basis of a school's actual textbook shortage; and
(3) May be used to purchase educational supplies directly related to a textbook being purchased.
SECTION 2. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
