A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

authorizing the issuance of highway revenue bonds and making an appropriation for improvements to piilani highway, Maui.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to authorize the issuance of highway revenue bonds and make an appropriation for improvements to Piilani highway on the island of Maui.

SECTION 2. The director of transportation is authorized to issue highway revenue bonds in the sum of $2,000,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary; and the sum of $1,000,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for fiscal year 2001-2002, and the sum of $1,000,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for fiscal year 2002—2003, for plans, design, and construction for the expansion of the Piilani highway from two lanes to four lanes and other appropriate interim measures to minimize traffic congestion on the highway.

SECTION 3. This project is deemed necessary to qualify for federal aid financing or reimbursement, or both.

SECTION 4. The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of transportation for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 5. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
