A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to salary periods.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 78-13, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (e) to read as follows:

"(e) All employees, except those belonging to bargaining units 5 and 7, hired on or after July 1, 1998, shall be paid on the same pay dates and for the same pay periods as non-salaried employees[.]; provided that the payroll payment basis for members of bargaining unit 5 only shall be converted from an after-the-fact to a predicted payroll. Beginning January 15, 2002, pay days for bargaining unit 5 shall be on the fifteenth and the last day of every month. If the fifteenth and the last day of the month fall on a state holiday, Saturday, or Sunday, the pay day will be the immediately preceding weekday. The implementation of the predicted payroll for bargaining unit 5 shall not be subject to negotiation under chapter 89."

SECTION 2. This Act shall not affect the retirement benefit calculation of any public employee in bargaining unit 5 who retires after the effective date of this Act.

SECTION 3. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
