A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO AGRICULTURE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 147, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§147- Grading standards and labeling; bananas. (a) The department of agriculture shall establish grading standards for Hawaii-grown bananas. The grading standards shall be based on the banana integrated pest management protocol guidelines established by the University of Hawaii college of tropical agricultural and human resources.
(b) All Hawaii-grown bananas shall be labeled with a grade, according to standards prescribed by the department of agriculture.
(c) The department shall adopt rules, subject to chapter 91, for the purposes of this section."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
