Amends definition of "family or household members" to include persons in dating relationships; defines "dating relationships"; extends effective time of TROs to 180 days; requires courts to issue protective orders for minimum period of 5 years; authorizes longer extension period for protective orders. |

Relating to Awarding Custody and Visitation |
Requires written order with reasons for decision in awarding custody to person against whom there is evidence of family violence. |

Relating to Rights of Victims of Domestic Violence |
Establishes domestic violence victim’s right to be informed of offender’s probation violation. |

Relating to Probation |
Authorizes probation officers to inform domestic violence victims, their parents, or immediate family when defendant violates probation or when probation officers have information relating to victim’s safety and welfare. |

Relating to Firearms |
Repeals good cause exemption for possession of firearms by a person who is subject of a restraining order. |

Relating to Domestic Violence |
Extends from 24 to 48 hours to time in which a police officer may order a person to leave the premises of a domestic violence incident. Allows for a person arrested for domestic violence to be held after posting a bail bond for up to 48 hours if certain conditions are met. |

Makes appropriations to the respective counties to develop protocols and training for paramedics in treating domestic violence victims. |

Establishes commercial sexual exploitation of a minor as a class B offense. |

Requires persons convicted of sex offenses against children to obtain psychiatric or psychological therapy upon the completion of their terms of imprisonment. |

Relating to the Use of Force in Self-Protection |
Allows a person to use force in self defense against a family or household member when the person reasonably believes that such force is immediately necessary for protection against imminent physical abuse as a result of a pattern of extreme psychological abuse or the actor’s reasonably held cultural beliefs. |

Limits the justification for use of force against a minor. |

Allows a court to sentence a defendant who has been convicted of aggravated harassment by stalking to be placed on probation for life. |
