matter committee:

HB 2506    RELATING TO PROSPECTIVE ADOPTIVE PARENTS      HHS, JDC
HD1 SD1    Enables Department of Human Services to require
(SB 2847   criminal history checks for prospective adoptive
SD2)       parents.  Authorizes Department to contract for home
        studies by social workers with specialized adoption
        experience.  Defines "prospective adoptive parents".
        Allows Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center to release
        information. (SD1)

HB 2820    RELATING TO EDUCATION                     EDU/WAM, JDC
HD1 SD1    Requires the legislative reference bureau to conduct a
        study on how private schools may be able to work
        together to create a consortium for financing the
        construction and renovation of educational facilities
        at independent not-for-profit elementary schools,
        secondary schools, universities, and colleges. (SD1)

HB 1836    REPEALING SECTION 327E-13 (G), HAWAII         HHS, JDC
(SB 2064)  REVISED STATUTES
        Removes the pregnant women exemption from the Uniform
        Health Care Decisions Act.

HB 2528    RELATING TO SAFE DRINKING WATER               LRE, JDC
HD2        Raises penalties for violations of chapter 340E,
(SB 2869)  Hawaii Revised Statutes.  (HB2528 HD2)

HB 1762    RELATING TO MOTOR CARRIERS                TIA/CPN, JDC
        Clarifies the scope of entities subject to civil
        penalties for failing to comply with motor carrier
        law.

 
HB 2349    RELATING TO INSURANCE                     TIA/CPN, JDC
HD1        Allows an insurer to recover the amount of covered
        loss deductible provided by statute and that would
        have reduced the insurer's liability with regard to
        the claim, from the insured whose conduct resulted in
        inapplicability of the covered loss deductible to the
        claim.  (HB2349 HD1)
