JDC/EDU

SB 3047       RELATING TO SEX OFFENDERS                   JDC/EDU, WAM
           Authorizes   state   agencies   to   make  detailed
           information about criminal  sex offenders available
           on the Internet; appropriates an unspecified amount
           to implement.

(Please note:  The Committee on Education and Technology will hold its
decision making on the above measure on Wednesday, February 16, 2000
at 1:00 p.m. in conference room 212.)

SB 2994       RELATING TO GENETIC TESTING                     JDC, WAM
           Provides  for  the   genetic   testing  of  certain
           criminal offenders as a  condition of probation and
           parole.      Establishes   the   violent   offender
           identification   fund   and    the   sex   offender
           identification fund.  Appropriates funds.

SB 2220       RELATING TO THE REMOVAL OF NUISANCE SEAWEED     JDC, WAM
           Allows the  director  of  public  safety,  with the
           approval  of  the   governor,   to  enter  into  an
           agreement with the mayor of  a county to use inmate
           labor  from  a  community  correctional  center  to
           remove  nuisance  seaweed  from  the  shoreline and
           nearshore waters of the State.

SB 2025       RELATING TO PAROLE                              JDC, WAM
           Allows for earned  early  release from minimum term
           for good time credit.

SB 2074       RELATING TO CORRECTIONS                         JDC, WAM
           Provides for female parity in corrections.


 
SB 2428       MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR CRIME PREVENTION    JDC, WAM
           THROUGH THE REHABILITATION OF YOUTH GANG MEMBERS
           Appropriates $500,000 to be  expended by the family
           court  to  implement  a  youth  gang rehabilitation
           program based on the Redirectional Method.

SB 2431       RELATING TO SEX OFFENDERS                            JDC
           Requires lifetime parole for second time felony sex
           offenders.

SB 2663       RELATING TO PUBLIC SAFETY                            JDC
           Disallows the  entry  of  nolo  contendere pleas in
           sexual assault cases.

SB 2077       RELATING TO SEX OFFENDERS                            JDC
           Requires persons convicted  of sex offenses against
           children  to  obtain  psychiatric  or psychological
           therapy  upon  the  completion  of  their  terms of
           imprisonment.

SB 2076       RELATING TO COMMERCIAL SEXUAL EXPLOITATION           JDC
           OF A MINOR
           Establishes  commercial  sexual  exploitation  of a
           minor as a class B offense.

SB 2374       RELATING TO THE PENAL CODE                           JDC
           Creates a  new  offense  of  assault  in the fourth
           degree.  Increases the age of  a minor from 8 to 12
           with regard to  offense  against  children.  Raises
           penalties for the offense of  assault in the 1st to
           3rd degrees.
