                                 Honolulu, Hawaii

                                 RE: H.C.R. No. 193

Honorable Calvin K.Y. Say
Speaker, House of Representatives
Twentieth State Legislature
Regular Session of 2000
State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Health, to which was referred H.C.R. No.
193 entitled:

"HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION STRONGLY URGING THE PRESIDENT
AND THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO LEAD THE
NATION AND IMMEDIATELY ADDRESS THE PROBLEM OF HIGH COST OF
     PRESCRIPTION DRUGS FOR ALL AMERICANS,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this concurrent resolution is to urge the
United States (U.S.) President and U.S. Congress to lead the
nation and immediately address the high cost of prescription
drugs for all Americans.

Your Committee notes that prescription drugs are a primary
factor in escalating health care costs. It is your Committee's
belief that efforts to curb the high cost of prescription drugs
would be best addressed at the federal level.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Health that is attached to this report, your
Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of H.C.R. No. 193
and recommends that it be referred to the Committee on Consumer
Protection and Commerce.
