Honorable Norman Mizuguchi
President of the Senate
Twentieth State Legislature
Regular Session of 2000
State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Economic Development, to which was
referred H.C.R. No. 126, H.D. 1, entitled:

"HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF
THE GOLF COURSE INDUSTRY IN HAWAII AND DESIGNATING THE EWA
PLAINS/KAPOLEI REGION THE GOLF CAPITAL OF OAHU (AMENDED
     TITLE),"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to recognize the importance
of the golf course industry in Hawaii and to designate the Ewa
Plains/Kapolei region the golf capital of Oahu.

Testimony in favor of this measure was submitted by the
Estate of James Campbell, Gentry Companies, and Haseko Homes,
Inc. The Hawaii Audubon Society submitted testimony in
opposition.

Your Committee finds that golf courses supply a popular form
of recreation for Hawaii's residents and visitors alike, as well
as open space in an area of increasing development.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Economic Development that is attached to this
report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of
H.C.R. No. 126, H.D. 1, and recommends that it be referred to the
Committee on Ways and Means.
