Sir:

     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No.
89, H.D. 1, entitled: 

     "A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE OKINAWAN CENTENNIAL
     CELEBRATION COMMISSION,"

begs leave to report as follows:

     The purpose of this bill is to commemorate the 100th
Anniversary of the arrival of the Okinawan people to Hawaii by
appropriating funds for the Okinawan Centennial Celebration
Commission (Commission) and its activities.

     The Hawaii United Okinawa Association testified in support
of this measure.

     It is your Committee's intent that the funds appropriated
under this bill be used to support the planning and coordination
of events and activities of this statewide centennial
celebration.

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your
Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No.
