Sir:

     Your Committee on Culture and the Arts, to which was
referred H.B. No. 89 entitled: 

     "A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE OKINAWAN CENTENNIAL
     CELEBRATION COMMISSION,"

begs leave to report as follows:

     The purpose of this bill is to support the Okinawan
Centennial Celebration Commission which is coordinating the
Centennial Celebration of the arrival of the Okinawan people to
Hawaii.

     Testimony in support of the bill was received from the
Hawaii United Okinawa Association's Okinawan Centennial
Celebration Committee.

     Your Committee has amended the bill by changing the
appropriation from $200,000 to $1 for purposes of further
discussion.

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Culture and the Arts that is attached to this
report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose
of H.B. No. 89, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass
Second Reading in the form attached hereto as H.B. No. 89, H.D.
1, and be referred to the Committee on Finance.
