                                 RE: H.B. No. 2457

Honorable Calvin K.Y. Say
Speaker, House of Representatives
Twentieth State Legislature
Regular Session of 2000
State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Public Safety and Military Affairs, to
which was referred H.B. No. 2457 entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO VETERANS LOANS,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this bill is to repeal provisions relating to
the Veterans Loan Program.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure
from the Office of Veterans Services.

Your Committee finds that the provisions repealed by this
measure have not been in use for a number of years. Further your
Committee finds that veterans still have available to them a
similar program from the United States Veterans Administration
and may also consider purchasing a home under the Hula Mae
program.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Public Safety and Military Affairs that is attached
to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and
purpose of H.B. No. 2457 and recommends that it pass Second
Reading and be referred to the Committee on Finance.
