                    SENATE  RESOLUTION

  REQUESTING A REVIEW AND EVALUATION OF AIR CONDITIONING
    MAINTENANCE SERVICE AT THE STATE CAPITOL. 


 1        WHEREAS, there are high numbers of State senators,
 2   representatives, and employees at the State Capitol who suffer
 3   from cold and flu-like symptoms for longer periods of time than
 4   normal; and
 5   
 6        WHEREAS, the State Capitol building is accordingly known
 7   as the "sick building"; and
 8   
 9        WHEREAS, in large buildings like the State Capitol,
10   appropriate air conditioning maintenance and air quality
11   maintenance standards must be met in order to prevent the
12   spread of viruses and antigens throughout the building; and
13   
14        WHEREAS, it appears that the current air conditioning
15   service contract provider may not be performing service and
16   maintenance up to appropriate standards; now, therefore,
17   
18        BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twentieth Legislature
19   of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2000, that the
20   Department of Accounting and General Services is requested to
21   review the performance of the current air conditioning
22   maintenance service provider; and
23   
24        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Department of Accounting
25   and General Services after consulting the Department of Health,
26   is requested to report findings and recommendations, if any, to
27   the Legislature twenty days before the convening of the Regular
28   Session of 2001; and
29   
30        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this
31   Resolution be transmitted to the Department of Accounting and
32   General Services and the Department of Health.
