                    SENATE  CONCURRENT
                        RESOLUTION

  REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO CONDUCT FOLLOW-UP SOIL
    TESTS AT VILLAGE PARK AND WEST LOCH FAIRWAYS. 


 1        WHEREAS, soil tests were conducted at Village Park and
 2   West Loch Fairways by the Department of Health; and
 3   
 4        WHEREAS, of the test samples taken, composite 17,
 5   comprised of four homes, showed the presence of DDT or
 6   dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, chromium, and arsenic and
 7   composite 25 showed significant amounts of arsenic; and
 8   
 9        WHEREAS, with respect to the results in composite 17, each
10   of the four homes should be tested for the benefit of the
11   residents' health and to determine whether the individual homes
12   may be habitable; and
13   
14        WHEREAS, it was not determined whether the arsenic found
15   at Village Park and West Loch Fairways was an organic or
16   inorganic compound or naturally occurring as opposed to
17   synthentic; and
18   
19        WHEREAS, the level of arsenic in the individual homes
20   covered in composite 25 should be clarified for the benefit of
21   the residents; now, therefore,
22   
23        BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twentieth Legislature
24   of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2000, the House of
25   Representatives concurring, that the Department of Health is
26   requested to test the individual homes covered in composites 17
27   and 25 from the Department's previous tests, clarify the levels
28   of toxic substances in each home, and make a determination of
29   the habitability of the individual homes in question; and
30   
31        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Health
32   report its findings to the Legislature no later than twenty
33   days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2001; and

 1        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this
 2   Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Health.
