                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO CABLE TELEVISION SYSTEMS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to allocate to the
 
 2 respective counties, in equal measure, a portion of the revenues
 
 3 derived from cable-television franchise fees for the purpose of
 
 4 planning and developing communications media programs and
 
 5 applications to benefit the residents of each county. 
 
 6      SECTION 2.  Section 440G-15, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 7 amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:
 
 8      "(a)  Each cable operator shall pay an annual fee to be
 
 9 determined by the director.  [The] Eighty per cent of the fees so
 
10 collected under this section shall be used to offset the costs of
 
11 administering this chapter.  Twenty per cent of the fees so
 
12 collected under this section shall be distributed to the
 
13 counties, in equal measure, for the purpose of planning and
 
14 developing communications media programs and applications to
 
15 benefit the residents of each county."
 
16      SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
17 New statutory material is underscored.
