                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT
ESTABLISHING THE HAWAII YOUTH ACADEMY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that the Hawaii youth
 
 2 sport and fitness program, established at the University of
 
 3 Hawaii specifically for coaches of youth organizations, is
 
 4 complemented by other youth-related sports activities at the
 
 5 University.  The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to
 
 6 support the university's establishment of an umbrella program for
 
 7 these related activities.
 
 8      SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general
 
 9 revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $20,000, or so much
 
10 thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 1999-2000, to
 
11 establish a Hawaii youth academy at the University of Hawaii to
 
12 carry on the missions of the Hawaii youth sport and fitness
 
13 program and other youth-related programs in the department of
 
14 kinesiology and leisure science in the college of education at
 
15 the University of Hawaii.
 
16      SECTION 3.  The sum appropriated shall be expended by the
 
17 University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.
 
18      SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 1999.
