                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT


MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR AGRICULTURE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  There is appropriated out of the general
 
 2 revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $215,000, or so much
 
 3 thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 1999-2000, and the
 
 4 same sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year
 
 5 2000-2001, for the following in each fiscal year:
 
 6      (1)  Research and breeding program to
 
 7           develop new varieties of orchids.       $75,000
 
 8      (2)  Marketing and promotion funds for
 
 9           tropical flowers to match existing
 
10           resources.                              $60,000
 
11      (3)  Pesticide screening to research
 
12           and register safe and effective
 
13           methods of pest control for the
 
14           floriculture industry.                  $30,000
 
15      (4)  Establishment of a floriculture
 
16           research and development pool.          $50,000
 
17      SECTION 2.  The sums appropriated shall be expended by the

 1 department of agriculture for the purposes of this Act.
 
 2      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 1999.
