plans for the Big Island's Puna district based on the location of
all existing subdivisions and theoretical build-out populations

                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT
RELATING TO EDUCATION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  (a)  The department of education shall develop
 
 2 school complex plans for the Big Island's Puna district based on
 
 3 the location of all existing subdivisions and theoretical build-
 
 4 out populations of one hundred fifty thousand and three hundred
 
 5 thousand.
 
 6      (b)  The school complex plans shall identify, among other
 
 7 things, the sites of all existing and proposed elementary,
 
 8 elementary/intermediate, and elementary/high school sites in the
 
 9 Puna district.
 
10      (c)  The department of education shall submit preliminary
 
11 school complex plans to the legislature not less than twenty days
 
12 prior to the convening of the regular session of 2000, and final
 
13 school complex plans not less than twenty days prior to the
 
14 convening of the regular session of 2001.
 
15      SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
