                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO EDUCATION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that education for
 
 2 Hawaii's children must be a priority in order to ensure a
 
 3 productive workforce for the future of this State.  To meet this
 
 4 goal, every available opportunity must be utilized to provide
 
 5 educational opportunities for Hawaii's children.
 
 6      The purpose of this Act is to mandate that the A+ after
 
 7 school child care program primarily be an educational program.
 
 8      SECTION 2.  Section 302A-1149, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 9 amended to read as follows:
 
10      "[[]§302A-1149[]]  Use of school facilities for after school
 
11 child care.  The department may enter into agreements and
 
12 contracts with individuals, organizations, or agencies for the
 
13 use of public school buildings, facilities, and grounds for the
 
14 operation of after school child care programs.  The board shall
 
15 issue such rules as are necessary to carry out the purposes of
 
16 this section.  The board shall establish guidelines to structure
 
17 the after school child care programs to primarily be educational
 
18 in nature."
 
19      SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
