BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. For the past twenty-five years, the Maui Academy

of Performing Arts, a tax exempt nonprofit agency under section

501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, has been providing

opportunities for personal growth and cultural enrichment through

performances and educational theatre arts programs. The Academy

from age three through adults, workshops, in-school performances,

and community productions. The Academy is acquiring and

renovating the former National Dollar Store in Wailuku as its new

year and increase its program offerings, keep ticket and classes

prices affordable, and anchor the revitalization of Wailuku. The

Academy is reaching out to the State, the county of Maui,

foundations, corporations, and individuals to finance this

undertaking.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general

revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $787,000, or so much

thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 1999-2000, as a

grant-in-aid for the development of a permanent home for the Maui
