                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO IDENTIFICATION CARDS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 846-30.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended to read as follows:
 
 3      "§846-30.5  Expiration date.  Every certificate of
 
 4 identification issued under this part, whether an original or a
 
 5 renewal, shall [bear an expiration date which shall be six years
 
 6 after the date of issuance;] expire on the first birthday of the
 
 7 individual occurring not less than six years after the date of
 
 8 the issuance of the certificate of identification; provided that
 
 9 if the person is a legal nonimmigrant, the certificate shall bear
 
10 an expiration date that is the same as the expiration date on the
 
11 person's Immigration and Naturalization Service departure card
 
12 (I-94).  All certificates of identification issued without
 
13 expiration dates shall expire on December 31, 1999."
 
14      SECTION 2.  For all certificates of identification expired
 
15 on December 31, 1999, and renewed before the effective date of
 
16 this Act, the department of the attorney general shall reissue
 
17 the certificates of identification bearing the new expiration
 
18 date in compliance with this Act.
 
19      SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
