                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES HEALTH FUND.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 87-28, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended to read as follows:
 
 3      "§87-28  Other powers.  In addition to the power to
 
 4 administer the fund, the board of trustees may:
 
 5      (1)  Collect, receive, deposit, withdraw, and invest money
 
 6           in behalf of the fund;
 
 7      (2)  Appoint an administrator who shall be exempt from
 
 8           chapters 76 and 77 and serve under and at the pleasure
 
 9           of the board and staff necessary to carry out this
 
10           chapter, subject to the limitations of available
 
11           appropriations and chapters 76 and 77 and section 78-
 
12           1[;].  Effective           , the salary of the
 
13           administrator shall be set by the board within the
 
14           range established for deputy directors.  The
 
15           administrator shall be a member of the state employees'
 
16           retirement system and shall be eligible to receive the
 
17           benefits of any state or federal employee benefit
 
18           program generally applicable to officers and employees
 
19           of the State;

 1      (3)  Make payments of periodic charges and pay for
 
 2           reasonable expenses incurred to carry out the purposes
 
 3           of the fund; or
 
 4      (4)  Require any department, agency, or employee of the
 
 5           State and county to furnish information to the board to
 
 6           carry out the purposes of this chapter."
 
 7      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
 8 New statutory material is underscored.
 
 9      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
