                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING PETER H. SCHALL, RECIPIENT OF THE 2000 PALAKA
   AWARD.



 1       WHEREAS, the richness and vitality of our State are due in
 2   large part to the invaluable personal contributions in
 3   providing much needed economic vitality into the community and
 4   commitment to enhancing the future of the visitor industry
 5   through their leadership, professionalism, and talents; and
 6   
 7       WHEREAS, the Palaka Award represents durability, strength,
 8   honest value, responsiveness to changing environments and
 9   innovation, and is awarded to exemplary individuals for their
10   unique and outstanding business practices; and
11   
12       WHEREAS, PETER H. SCHALL is a native of Freundenstadt, West
13   Germany and attended a three-year apprenticeship program at a
14   hotel upon graduation from the School for Hotel and Restaurant
15   Administration, Bad Ueberkingen in 1960; and
16   
17       WHEREAS, this 42-year veteran of the hospitality industry
18   began his career in 1965 at Hilton Washington & Towers holding
19   various positions in food and beverage, expanding his knowledge
20   in hotel operations and due particularly to his ambition,
21   commitment towards excellence, and ceaseless efforts in quality
22   improvement, PETER H. SCHALL has recently been promoted to Vice
23   President of Hilton Resorts Hawaii and has been Managing
24   Director of Hilton Hawaiian Village since May 1994, overseeing
25   the general operations of the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hilton
26   Waikoloa Village and Hilton Turtle Bay Golf and Tennis Resort
27   with his innovative and dynamic leadership, achieving a level
28   of success that is often emulated, but seldom equaled; and
29   
30       WHEREAS, in addition to a successful career, PETER H.
31   SCHALL, devoted husband to wife Charlotte has a wonderful
32   daughter, Michelle; now, therefore,
33   
34       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
35   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
36   of 2000, that this body congratulates PETER H. SCHALL for being

 1   named the Recipient of the 2000 Palaka Award, commends him for
 2   his outstanding achievements, and expresses to him its warmest
 3   Aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future
