                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

HONORING AIEA HIGH SCHOOL, HANA HIGH AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND
   KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL FOR BEING NAMED 1999-2000 BLUE RIBBON
   SCHOOLS BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.



 1       WHEREAS, the United States Department of Education honors
 2   the nation's most successful schools for excellence in teaching
 3   and instruction, student achievement, leadership, and parental
 4   involvement by awarding them recognition as Blue Ribbon
 5   Schools; and
 6   
 7       WHEREAS, Blue Ribbon Schools demonstrate excellence through
 8   challenging academic standards and a rigorous curriculum for
 9   all students; a disciplined, supportive, safe, and drug-free
10   environment; participatory leadership and a strong partnership
11   among the family, school, and community; excellent teaching in
12   a school environment that strengthens teacher skills; and low
13   dropout rates and documented student achievement; and
14   
15       WHEREAS, three outstanding Hawaii schools, AIEA HIGH
16   SCHOOL, HANA HIGH and ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, and KAIMUKI HIGH
17   SCHOOL have been honored as 1999-2000 Blue Ribbon Schools for
18   their superior efforts in the educational development of their
19   students; and
20   
21       WHEREAS, since 1961, AIEA HIGH SCHOOL has displayed a
22   strong commitment to educational excellence and has upheld its
23   philosophy that each individual possesses unique, inherent
24   capabilities and is deserving of respect, responsible for
25   developing the skills and knowledge to be lifelong learners and
26   to create the best possible learning environment for everyone
27   in the school community; and
28   
29       WHEREAS, HANA HIGH AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL helps students
30   understand and internalize the importance of education and
31   lifelong learning by providing each student with the skills and
32   technological tools are essential to becoming a successful,
33   productive, and conscientious member of society; and
34   
35       WHEREAS, KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL has emphasized the importance
36   of acquiring a strong and quality education by creating a
37   nurturing environment that is conducive to learning; and

 1       WHEREAS, AIEA HIGH SCHOOL, HANA HIGH AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL,
 2   and KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL rely on partnerships with parents,
 3   teachers, businesses, social agencies, and communities to raise
 4   the learning standards of their students, which is a key
 5   ingredient of academic excellence; now, therefore,
 6   
 7       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
 8   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
 9   of 2000, that this body hereby respectfully honors and
10   congratulates AIEA HIGH SCHOOL, HANA HIGH AND ELEMENTARY
11   SCHOOL, AND KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL for their exemplary initiatives
12   and successes upon being named 1999-2000 Blue Ribbon Schools by
13   the United States Department of Education, and extend to the
14   students, parents, faculty, an administrators of these schools
15   its warmest aloha and best success for continued success.
