                     HOUSE RESOLUTION

HONORING FIVE AMERICAN MOTHERS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO
   CHILDREN, FAMILY, COMMUNITY AND STATE.



 1      WHEREAS, American Mothers Inc. is dedicated to honoring
 2 Mothers who have not only positively influenced the growth and
 3 development of their own children, but also the lives of
 4 countless children in their communities and the State of Hawaii;
 5 and
 6      WHEREAS, American Mothers Inc. has, for more than 60 years,
 7 contributed in many positive ways to American society by focusing
 8 their efforts on preserving the moral and spiritual foundation of
 9 the family through educational, cultural, and spiritual programs
10 for Mothers of all walks of life; and
11      WHEREAS, there is no job more important than the nurturing,
12 training, and loving of children as they grow and Mothers are on
13 the job 365 days a year putting in 16 and 18-hour days on the
14 job; and
15      WHEREAS, LIANNA A. McMILLAN, a graduate of Pearl City High
16 School and Brigham Young University has made numerous
17 contributions to the American Mothers Inc. program and who, along
18 with her husband Lyle, are raising a family of ten children ages
19 two through twenty; and
20      WHEREAS, LIANNA A. McMILLAN represented Hawaii as the Young
21 Mother of the Year in 1995 and the National Convention and served
22 as Vice President of American Mothers Inc. and co-chaired the
23 very successful National Convention held at Hilton Hawaiian
24 Village in April 1999; and
25      WHEREAS, LIANNA A. McMILLAN manages numerous
26 responsibilities in addition to successfully raising a family
27 without sacrificing any of the love, support and nurturing that
28 American Mothers Inc. recognizes is essential to a family's well
29 being and growth; and
30      WHEREAS, LIANNA A. McMILLAN is hereby commended for her
31 leadership as President of the Hawaii Chapter of American Mothers
32 Inc.; and
33      WHEREAS, CHERYL ANN WAILANI FLORES CHUN realized in college
34 that her greatest desire was to be a wife, mother and full-time
35 homemaker and now resides in Wahiawa where she has fulfilled her
36 life's ambition of raising a family; and
37      WHEREAS, CHERYL ANN WAILANI FLORES CHUN and her husband of
38 twenty-five years, Clayton, have successfully raised eight
39 children; Tara, Taran, Temple, Ti, Treasure, Truly, Truman, and
40 Trustin and she has found the time to serve as Young Women's
41 President and Sunday school instructor in the Church of Jesus

 1 Christ of  Latter-Day Saints and has given generously of her time
 2 as a foster parent and has been a licensed day care provider for
 3 eighteen years; and
 4      WHEREAS, she has managed all these responsibilities while
 5 always maintaining her personal philosophy of parenting, that it
 6 is her duty and obligation to teach her children to pray and walk
 7 upright before the Lord, to obey the laws of the land and to be
 8 contributing members of their community and that the home is the
 9 training center for these principles; and
10      WHEREAS, CHERYL ANN WAILANI FLORES CHUN's devotion to
11 spiritual principles and to the nurturing, love and support that
12 a family needs are strong ideals which American Mothers Inc.
13 finds are most necessary to producing close, caring and joyous
14 families; and
15      WHEREAS, CHERYL ANN WAILANI FLORES CHUN has been named
16 Mother of the Year 2000 by the Hawaii Chapter of the American
17 Mothers Inc.; and
18      WHEREAS, SUSAN NOANOA CRAVENS KUNZ is the eldest of fourteen
19 children, was born in Utah and moved with her family to Samoa at
20 the age of two and then moved with her family at the age of
21 fourteen to Laie, Hawaii where she graduated from Kahuku High
22 School and later received a degree in Business Management from
23 Brigham Young University, Hawaii; and
24      WHEREAS, SUSAN NOANOA CRAVENS KUNZ and her husband, Steve,
25 in their Laie home, are raising a family of seven children; ages
26 15 years to three months and Susan has joyfully chosen to stay
27 home with her children with the steadfast knowledge that no job
28 is more important than that of a mother; and
29      WHEREAS, SUSAN NOANOA CRAVENS KUNZ is an innately gifted
30 manager of her time and her resources providing her family with
31 the love, support and nurturing necessary for them to thrive, by
32 truly listening to each of her children and tailoring her
33 response to the needs of each child with patience and compassion;
34 and
35      WHEREAS, her philosophy of mothering, includes the belief
36 that the best way to serve her children and family is by being
37 physically present when they need her, and this belief and her
38 commitment to it, parallels the highest principles of American
39 Mothers, Inc.; and
40      WHEREAS, SUSAN NOANOA CRAVENS KUNZ in carrying out her
41 responsibility of nurturing her family is still able to undertake
42 volunteer work such as serving on the boards of the Laie
43 Community Association, Ko'olau Loa Little League, the Laie
44 Citizen's Advisory Group, the PTA, coaching AYSO soccer, and
45 involvement in church work including counseling and teaching, and
46 playing the piano and organ at church functions, without
47 sacrificing the quality of care her family receives, and that

 1 this volunteer work is an important part of her own personal
 2 growth; and 
 3      WHEREAS, SUSAN NOANOA CRAVENS KUNZ is hereby commended for
 4 being named Hawaii State Young Mother of the Year 2000, by the
 5 Hawaii Chapter of American Mothers Inc.; and
 6      WHEREAS, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO, born in Wahiawa, educated at St.
 7 Andrew's Priory and the University of Hawaii, where she received
 8 her BBA degree, and now raises a family and pursues a career in
 9 Aiea, Hawaii; and
10      WHEREAS, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO and her husband Edwin are the
11 proud parents of a son, Eddie, and supply him with the love and
12 support needed for him to grow in a caring environment; and
13      WHEREAS, as a community volunteer, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO has
14 given of her time and energy serving extensively at her son's
15 school and serving as chair of the American Optometric
16 Association Paraoptometric Section, being the editor of their
17 national newsletter and a writer of many other national eye
18 related articles; and
19      WHEREAS, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO has successfully managed her
20 career as an optician with her responsibilities as a mother while
21 never wavering in her commitment to the tenets of patience, love
22 and humility which family relationships require and that family
23 is the building block of society and brings life's greatest
24 fulfillment; and
25      WHEREAS, she understands that raising a family includes the
26 concepts that parents must be an integral part of the child's
27 learning process and must take time to provide the moral guidance
28 and spiritual nurturing, and that these concepts are central to
29 the philosophy of American Mothers Inc.; and
30      WHEREAS, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO is hereby commended for being
31 named by the Hawaii Chapter of American Mothers Inc. as the State
32 Merit Mother for the year 2000; and
33      WHEREAS, AILEEN MAHEANLANI HAMAMOTO AI, was born in
34 Honolulu, educated at Kamehameha Schools and Brigham Young
35 University in Provo, Utah, where she received a BS degree in
36 business, before teaching in a mission in Paraguay, returned to
37 her native Hawaii to marry and raise a family; and
38      WHEREAS, MAHI AI, along with her husband Chad, are raising
39 and nurturing three children; Kila, Brady, and Chad Jr., and
40 giving these three keiki, their biological and hanai children,
41 the love and support that is abundant in their family; and
42      WHEREAS, MAHI AI is a master of time management and arranges
43 her work schedule and volunteer service to optimize the precious
44 time she spends as a homemaker carefully coordinating as to
45 ensure that the needs of her children for physical and emotional
46 nurturing from their parents are consistently met; and
47      WHEREAS, MAHI AI devotes time and energy to volunteer for

 1 her church as an early morning seminary teacher and as a Sunday
 2 School teacher and a visiting teacher in the Relief Society, and
 3 in community service such as Precious Moments and the Hallmark
 4 Club, which enabled her to participate in raising funds for a
 5 Shelter for Abused Women and Children; and 
 6      WHEREAS, MAHI AI's joy of living and sense of humor enable
 7 her to balance a career, volunteer and community work and a
 8 family of three children, give generously of her time while
 9 making no sacrifices in the amount of love and support that her
10 family receives, and represents the highest ideals of American
11 Mothers Inc.; and
12      WHEREAS, AILEEN MAHEALANI HAMAMOTO AI is hereby commended
13 for being named by the Hawaii Chapter of American Mothers Inc. as
14 Hawaii State Honor Mother for the year 2000; and
15      WHEREAS, American Mothers Inc. is the organization that is
16 dedicated to supporting the efforts of all the hardworking
17 mothers across America; now, therefore,
18      BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
19 Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of
20 2000, that this body congratulates and commends LIANNA A.
21 McMILLAN, CHERYL ANN WAILANI FLORES CHUN, SUSAN NOANOA CRAVENS
22 KUNZ, AMY ARAKAWA ENDO, AND AILEEN MAHEALANI HAMAMOTO AI, who
23 have been chosen by the Hawaii Chapter of the American Mothers
24 Inc. as Mothers of the Year 2000, for their noteworthy
25 contributions to their children, families, communities, and the
26 State, and expresses its warmest aloha and best wishes for
27 continued success in all of their future endeavors.
