                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING DORIS M. CHING, Ed.D. AS THE NEWLY-APPOINTED
   PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT PERSONNEL
   ADMINISTRATORS' BOARD OF DIRECTORS.



 1       WHEREAS, student personnel administrators should be
 2   recognized and acknowledged for their outstanding service to
 3   students in higher education institutions because these
 4   individuals provide critical services to assure access and
 5   success of students; and
 6   
 7       WHEREAS, since its inception in 1918, the NATIONAL
 8   ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATORS (NASPA) has
 9   provided student affairs administrators with invaluable
10   resources, such as professional development opportunities and
11   information on current issues affecting campus policies student
12   needs by being the leading voice for student administration,
13   policy, and practice, providing professional development, and
14   promoting exemplary practices; and
15   
16       WHEREAS, DORIS M. CHING, Ed.D. served 12 years as
17   University of Hawaii's Vice-President for Student Affairs, and
18   was previously honored by NASPA for recognition of her
19   distinguished service in a leadership role, presented with the
20   Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service to the Profession,
21   named the University of Hawaii College of Education's
22   Distinguished Alumna in 1995, selected University of Hawaii
23   Manager of the Year, headlined Women in Communications in 1992,
24   honored YWCA Outstanding Woman in the Community for 1991, and
25   is one of 100 business and professional women leaders in the
26   Class of 1993 of Leadership America; and
27   
28       WHEREAS, in March 1998, DORIS M. CHING Ed.D. was installed
29   as President-elect and a year later, became NASPA's firs Asian-
30   American president as well as first elected official from
31   Hawaii; now, therefore,

 1       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
 2   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
 3   of 2000, that this body hereby congratulates, Ed.D. of the
 4   University of Hawaii for being honored as the newly-appointed
 5   President of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT PERSONNEL
 6   ADMINISTRATORS' Board of Directors, and extends to her its
 7   warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all
 8   future endeavors.
