                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

HONORING AND COMMENDING THE CHILDREN AND YOUTH ADVOCATES OF 1999
   FOR THE STEADFAST COMMITMENT TO ADVOCATING FOR THE CHILDREN
   AND YOUTH OF OUR STATE.



 1       WHEREAS, children are a silent minority, they cannot vote
 2   and have almost nothing to say in matters that affect their
 3   lives; and
 4   
 5       WHEREAS, without others speaking for them, children and
 6   their problems are frequently ignored; and
 7   
 8       WHEREAS, Hawaii Kids Watch came into being in 1998, the
 9   marriage of two earlier organizations, Hawaii Advocates for
10   Children and Youth (HACY) and Hawaii Children's Campaign (HCC);
11   and
12   
13       WHEREAS, this non-partisan, non-profit, independent
14   organization focuses on public education, research, and
15   advocacy on behalf of the children of Hawaii; and
16   
17       WHEREAS, a member of the National Association of Child
18   Advocates, Hawaii Kids Watch welcomes individual and
19   organization members, and programs and policies that have the
20   potential to better the lives of a broad spectrum of children;
21   and
22   
23       WHEREAS, Hawaii Kids Watch seeks to strengthen the
24   effectiveness of the many viable single-issue child advocacy
25   groups by focusing public attention on the inter-dependence of
26   children's needs; and
27   
28       WHEREAS, since 1998, Hawaii Kids Watch has honored
29   outstanding advocates for children and youth during Children
30   and Youth Month in October; and
31   
32       WHEREAS, in 1999, Hawaii Kids Watch named AT&T Cares,
33   Operation OUCH, Hope Chapel-Kaneohe, Debbie Toth-Dennis, John
34   Friedman, Kathleen Langtad, and Rosie Sakamoto as Hawaii's
35   Outstanding Advocates for Children and Youth; now, therefore,

 1       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
 2   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
 3   of 2000, that this body hereby recognizes and commends AT&T
 4   Cares, Operation OUCH, Hope Chapel-Kaneohe, Debbie Toth-Dennis,
 5   John Friedman, Kathleen Langtad, and Rosie Sakamoto for their
 6   steadfast commitment to advocating for the children and youth
 7   of our State, and extends to them its warmest Aloha and best
 8   wishes for their continued success in all their future
 9   endeavors.
