                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

RELATING TO THE COMMENDING OF THE YWCA'S OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT
   AWARD HONOREES. 


 1   WHEREAS, for twenty-three years, the Young Women's Christian
 2   Association (YWCA) Outstanding Achievement Awards Program in
 3   Hawaii has acknowledged the accomplishments of outstanding
 4   women and organizations in our community who have achieved a
 5   distinguished level of excellence in their respective fields,
 6   and serve as role models for young women; and
 7   
 8   WHEREAS, on May 5, 2000, the YWCA holds its annual Leader
 9   Luncheon at the Hilton Hawaiian Village to recognize its
10   Outstanding Achievement Awards honorees, JULIA ANN FROHLICH,
11   M.D., Chief Executive Officer of Blood Bank of Hawaii, SISTER
12   FRANCINE GRIES, OSF, Executive Director of St. Francis Hospice,
13   PATTI J. LYONS, Chief Executive Officer of Consuelo Zobel Alger
14   Foundations, and BELT COLLINS HAWAII, an international design
15   firm; and
16   
17   WHEREAS, a leader in Hawaii's health care community for over 30
18   years, JULIA ANN FROHLICH, M.D., is President and Medical
19   Director of the Blood Bank, a consulting pathologist at the
20   Queen's Medical Center, an Assistant Clinical Professor of
21   Pathology at the University of Hawaii's John A. Burns School of
22   Medicine, and an active volunteer in many charitable
23   organizations; and
24   
25   WHEREAS, Hawaii's first hospice care center, St. Francis
26   Hospice Program was established in 1978 by SISTER FRANCINE
27   GRIES, a nurse and administrator whose mission is to ease the
28   pain and anguish of people suffering from terminal illnesses
29   with love, understanding and service; and
30   
31   WHEREAS, a social worker who has dedicated her life to
32   preventing and treating domestic abuse of women and children,
33   PATTI J. LYONS brought services directly to clients in the
34   community by establishing the first satellite Child and Family
35   Service office on the Waianae Coast, and helped to create the
36   Child Abuse Prevention Center, group homes for troubled teens,
37   and the Hawaii's Child Protective Services program; and

 2   WHEREAS, a community-minded international design firm that
 3   combines high-quality service with employment policies which
 4   encourage a fair and supportive workplace, BELT COLLINS HAWAII
 5   is one of a very few design firms to be headed by a woman, and
 6   is unique for employing women in 30 percent of its management
 7   positions, 43 percent of its professional staff, and 40 percent
 8   of the total Hawaii staff; now, therefore
 9   
10   BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twentieth
11   Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2000,
12   that this body extends its heartfelt congratulations to DR.
13   JULIA ANN FROHLICH, SISTER FRANCINE GRIES, PATTI J. LYONS, and
14   BELT COLLINS HAWAII for being honored with the YWCA's
15   Outstanding Achievement Awards and wishes all four awardees
16   continued success in all future endeavors.
17   
18   BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution
19   be transmitted to Hawaii's four YWCA Outstanding Achievement
20   Award honorees.
