                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

RELATING TO THE HONORING OF MAJOR GENERAL EDWARD L. CORREA, JR.
   FOR HIS APPOINTMENT AS ADJUTANT GENERAL, STATE OF HAWAII. 


 1       WHEREAS, MAJOR GENERAL EDWARD L. CORREA, JR., throughout
 2   his public and private life, has dedicated his time and energy
 3   in service to his nation, his state, his community and to his
 4   fellow citizens; and
 5   
 6       WHEREAS, MAJOR GENERAL EDWARD L. CORREA, JR. has been
 7   appointed Adjutant General, State of Hawaii, Department of
 8   Defense, promoted to Major General, and is responsible for
 9   training, policies and plans for more than 5,500 members of the
10   Hawaii Army and Air National Guard and serves as Director of
11   State Civil Defense; and
12   
13       WHEREAS, MAJOR GENERAL EDWARD L. CORREA, JR., a true son of
14   Hawaii, was born in Hilo, received his bachelor of arts degree
15   in Sociology and his juris doctorate from the University of
16   Hawaii and while serving his country attended Command and
17   General Staff College and the War College; and
18   
19       WHEREAS, MAJOR GENERAL EDWARD L. CORREA, JR. enlisted in
20   the Army in June 1965 and reached the rank of sergeant before
21   being commissioned as an officer.  He served as a platoon
22   officer with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Brigade at Fort Knox,
23   Kentucky, before being honorably discharged in 1969 when he
24   joined the Hawaii Army National Guard; and
25   
26       WHEREAS, MAJOR GENERAL EDWARD L. CORREA, JR. served in many
27   responsible positions with the State of Hawaii before joining
28   the Hawaii National Guard full-time, where he eventually
29   assumed full command in July 1996; and
30   
31       WHEREAS, MAJOR GENERAL EDWARD L. CORREA, JR., throughout
32   his career, has received many awards and decorations including
33   the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army
34   Commendation Medal, the Army Reserve Component Achievement
35   Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service
36   Medal with Silver Star, the Army Service Ribbon and the
37   Humanitarian Service Medal; now, therefore,

 2       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
 3   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
 4   of 2000, that this body hereby honors, commends, and
 5   congratulates MAJOR GENERAL EDWARD L. CORREA, JR. on the
 6   occasion of his appointment to the post of State Adjutant
 7   General, his promotion to the rank of Major General, and for
 8   his outstanding contributions to the community, and extends to
 9   him and his beloved wife, Johanna, and their five children,
10   best wishes for continued happiness and success in all future
11   endeavors.
