                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION
URGING THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR TO DEVELOP AND AWARD
   CERTIFICATES OF RECOGNITION TO FAMILIES OF DECEASED ORGAN
   DONORS.



 1       WHEREAS, organ donors in the United States have enriched
 2   the lives of those in need of organs; and
 3   
 4       WHEREAS, thousands of people remain on waiting lists each
 5   year because of the unavailability of organs; and
 6   
 7       WHEREAS, thousands of people die from their illness because
 8   no organ is available; and
 9   
10       WHEREAS, promoting organ donation in Hawaii will benefit
11   those in need; and
12   
13       WHEREAS, other states have successfully supported organ
14   donation by issuing a certificate of recognition to the
15   surviving family members of a deceased organ donor; now,
16   therefore,
17   
18       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
19   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
20   of 2000, that the Office of the Governor develop and award
21   certificates of recognition to surviving family members of
22   deceased organ donors; and 
23   
24       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this
25   Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Directors of
26   Health, Transportation, Public Safety, Human Services, the
27   Chiefs of Police and Fire for all the counties, and the Chair
28   of the Committees on Health, Transportation, and Human
29   Services.
