                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING HAWAII JUNIOR MISS, SANDRA KIM, FIRST RUNNER-UP
   JOY TANIMURA, AND SECOND RUNNER-UP CHRISTINE GIBO IN THE
   2000 HAWAII JUNIOR MISS PROGRAM.





 1       WHEREAS, first started in Hawaii in 1959, the Junior Miss
 2   Program is part of a nationwide scholarship program to
 3   recognize, reward, and encourage excellence, and is supported
 4   locally by corporate sponsors, local companies, media
 5   personalities, and other individuals that contribute
 6   scholarship awards, cash donations, and prizes; and 
 7   
 8       WHEREAS, Sandra Kim, after being selected a preliminary
 9   night winner in the Presence and Composure phase and the
10   Creative and Performing Arts phase with her Korean cultural
11   drum dance Book Choom, was named the 2000 Hawaii Junior Miss at
12   the 41st annual scholarship program held on January 29 and 30,
13   2000; and
14   
15       WHEREAS, Ms. Kim will represent Hawaii at the Americas
16   Junior Miss program in Mobile, Alabama this summer, where she
17   will compete with forty-nine other high school seniors; and 
18   
19       WHEREAS, as a senior at McKinley High School where she
20   maintains a 4.1 grade point average, Sandra Kim is currently
21   the Student Body President, a member of the National Honor
22   Society and has been a Teen Court volunteer for the past four
23   years, and her commitment to excellence serves as an
24   inspiration to young people and has bestowed pride on her
25   family, community, and the State of Hawaii; and
26   
27       WHEREAS, first runner-up in the Hawaii Junior Miss Program,
28   Joy Tanimura, and second runner-up, Christine Gibo, also serve
29   as role models who bring equal pride and joy to the State of
30   Hawaii; now, therefore,
31   
32       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representative of the
33   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
34   of 2000, that this body hereby congratulates Sandra Kim upon
35   being selected as the 2000 Hawaii Junior Miss and offers it

 1   support and encouragement in the forthcoming Americas Junior
 2   Miss contest in Mobile, Alabama, and to Joy Tanimura, first
 3   runner-up, and Christine Gibo, second runner-up, and extends to
 4   them its sincere wishes for continued success in all future
 5   endeavors.
