                     HOUSE CONCURRENT
                        RESOLUTION
URGING COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN'S ATHLETIC ORGANIZATIONS TO
REFRAIN FROM SCHEDULING SPORTS-RELATED ACTIVITIES ON
    SUNDAYS.

WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of families, churches
and temples to provide the youth of our community with proper
  spiritual training; and

WHEREAS, it was not long ago, out of that understanding
and respect, that all sports-related activities were suspended
on Sunday mornings in order to allow the youth and families of
our community to attend worship and receive religious
  education; and

WHEREAS, the proliferation of sports leagues, year-round
sporting events and major tournaments has created a dilemma for
families that are torn between practicing their chosen
religions or participating in sporting events; and

WHEREAS, with the erosion of the family and religious
values and the mounting spiritual vacuum that looms today, it
has become more critical than ever to provide spiritual
training to the youth of our State; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
of 2000, the Senate concurring, that community and children's
athletic organizations are urged to refrain from scheduling
  sports-related activities on Sundays; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this
Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the head of the agency
of each county having jurisdiction over recreational programs,
who in turn is requested to transmit copies to children's
community or athletic organizations in the county, including
mountain ball leagues, little leagues, Pony leagues, and soccer
  leagues.
