                     HOUSE  CONCURRENT
                        RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE GOLF INDUSTRY IN HAWAII AND
   DESIGNATING THE EWA PLAINS/KAPOLEI REGION AS THE GOLF
   CAPITAL OF OAHU. 


 1       WHEREAS, the golf industry is an important element of
 2   Hawaii's visitor and sports industries, attracting golfers from
 3   around the world to Hawaii and generating millions of dollars
 4   in revenue to the State; and
 5   
 6       WHEREAS, the golf industry provides many job opportunities
 7   and recreational activities for residents and visitors alike;
 8   and
 9   
10       WHEREAS, golf courses provide an aesthetically- and
11   environmentally-sound replacement for the green blankets of
12   sugar cane, which once grew on the Ewa plains; and 
13   
14       WHEREAS, golf courses have provided residential and
15   commercial areas with drainage relief and open space; and
16   
17       WHEREAS, within a five-mile radius of Ewa Beach, there are
18   six courses:  West Loch Municipal Course, Ewa Village Municipal
19   Course, Coral Creek Golf Course, Hawaii Prince Golf Club,
20   Barbers Point Golf Course, and New Ewa Beach Golf Club; and
21   
22       WHEREAS, within ten miles of Ewa Historical Village there
23   are six more golf courses:  Ko Olina Golf Club, Kapolei Golf
24   Course, Royal Kunia Country Club, Waikele Golf Club, Ted
25   Makalena Municipal Course, and Hawaii Country Club; and 
26   
27       WHEREAS, at least two more golf courses are planned for the
28   Ewa Plains/Kapolei region; and 
29   
30       WHEREAS, the diversity of the courses in architecture and
31   course ratings attract and challenge golfers of every handicap
32   to the Ewa Plains/Kapolei region; now, therefore,

 1       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
 2   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
 3   of 2000, the Senate concurring, that the Legislature of the
 4   State of Hawaii recognizes the importance of the golf industry
 5   in Hawaii and designates the Ewa Plains/Kapolei region as the
 6   golf capital of Oahu; and
 7   
 8       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this
 9   Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor of Hawaii,
10   Mayor of Honolulu, Superintendent of West Loch Municipal
11   Course, Superintendent of Ewa Village Municipal Course,
12   Director of Golf of Coral Creek Golf Course, Director of Golf
13   of Hawaii Prince Golf Club, Head Pro of Barbers Point Golf
14   Course, Manager of New Ewa Beach Golf Club, General Manager of
15   Ko Olina Golf Club, President of Kapolei Golf Course, Receiver
16   of Royal Kunia Country Club, General Manager of Waikele Golf
17   Club, Superintendent of Ted Makalena Municipal Course, and
18   General Manager of Hawaii Country Club.
