                     A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO HAWAII GOOD SAMARITAN LAW.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  The Hawaii Revised Statutes is amended by adding
 
 2 a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as
 
 3 follows:
 
 4      "§   -    Duty to assist.  A person at the scene of an
 
 5 emergency who knows that another person is exposed to or has
 
 6 suffered grave physical harm shall, to the extent that the person
 
 7 can do so without danger or peril to self or others, give
 
 8 reasonable assistance to the exposed person.  Reasonable
 
 9 assistance may include obtaining or attempting to obtain aid from
 
10 law enforcement or medical personnel.  A person who violates this
 
11 section is guilty of a petty misdemeanor."
 
12      SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.
 
13      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
