                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO NEW MOTOR VEHICLE WITH A TEMPORARY NUMBER PLATE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 249-7.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended to read as follows:
 
 3      "§249-7.5  New motor vehicle with a temporary number plate.
 
 4 Any person who has purchased a new motor vehicle which has
 
 5 attached a temporary number plate under section 286-53 shall
 
 6 register the new motor vehicle in accordance with this chapter
 
 7 within [twenty] thirty days after taking possession of the motor
 
 8 vehicle.  For the purposes of this chapter, the registration of
 
 9 such a motor vehicle shall be considered an original registration
 
10 under section 249-7.  Within thirty days of the original
 
11 registration of such a motor vehicle, the director of finance
 
12 shall furnish two number plates and the valid tag or emblem
 
13 appropriate for the year of registration, if any, which shall be
 
14 attached to the motor vehicle as provided under section 249-7.
 
15 Upon attachment of the number plates, the temporary number plate
 
16 provided under section 286-53 shall be destroyed."
 
17      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
18 New statutory material is underscored.
