                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Chapter 304, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended
 
 2 by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to
 
 3 read as follows:
 
 4      "§304-     Family studies center timelines.  (a)  The board
 
 5 of regents shall adopt timelines for its family studies center to
 
 6 follow in researching the causes of, and means to prevent, family
 
 7 breakdown, dissolution, and violence.
 
 8      (b)  The University of Hawaii shall conduct a periodic
 
 9 review of all instruction, organized research, public service,
 
10 academic support, student services, and institutional support
 
11 programs of the family studies center to determine whether the
 
12 center is operating in compliance with the timelines established
 
13 by the board.
 
14      (c)  The university shall submit periodic reports of its
 
15 findings to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to
 
16 the convening of the legislature in the second year of each
 
17 fiscal biennium." 
 
18      SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.
