                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT
RELATING TO TEACHER RECRUITMENT.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds
 
 2 to the University of Hawaii to encourage prospective teachers
 
 3 into the teaching profession by developing and disseminating
 
 4 public service announcements that promote teaching as a
 
 5 fulfilling career.
 
 6      SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general
 
 7 revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $        or so much
 
 8 thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 1999-2000 and the sum
 
 9 of $        or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal
 
10 year 2000-2001 to encourage prospective teachers into the
 
11 teaching profession by developing and disseminating public
 
12 service announcements that promote teaching as a fulfilling
 
13 career; provided that moneys shall be made available under this
 
14 Act only to the extent that they are matched by private
 
15 contributions including but not limited to in-kind services.
 
16      SECTION 3.  The sums appropriated shall be expended by the
 
17 University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.
 
18      SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 1999.
