                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO TEMPORARY INSTRUCTION PERMIT.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 286-110, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended by amending subsection (c) to read as follows:
 
 3      "(c)  If the examiner of drivers is satisfied that the
 
 4 applicant is qualified to receive an instruction permit, the
 
 5 examiner of drivers shall issue the permit entitling the
 
 6 applicant, while having the permit in the applicant's immediate
 
 7 possession, to drive a motor vehicle upon the highways for a
 
 8 period of [one hundred eighty days;] one year; provided that an
 
 9 applicant who is registered in a driver training course shall be
 
10 issued a temporary instruction permit for the duration of the
 
11 course and the termination date of the course shall be entered on
 
12 the permit.  A person who is not licensed to operate the category
 
13 of motor vehicles to which the driving training course applies
 
14 shall not operate a motor vehicle in connection with the driving
 
15 training course without a valid temporary instruction permit."
 
16      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.

 1      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on January 1, 2001.
