Amends area authorized for fishing around Kahoolawe to allow for
fishing in waters at least 20 fathoms deep and at least 100 yards

                     A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO THE KAHOOLAWE ISLAND RESERVE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:


 1      SECTION 1.  Section 6K-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended to read as follows:
 
 3      "[[]§6K-7[]]  Fishing.  Section 6K-3 notwithstanding, the
 
 4 commission shall adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 to permit
 
 5 fishing in the waters around Kaho'olawe that are consistent with
 
 6 the purpose of this chapter and that take into consideration the
 
 7 health and safety of the general public[.]; provided that fishing
 
 8 shall be allowed in island reserve waters that are twenty fathoms
 
 9 or deeper and that no fishing activity shall occur within one
 
10 hundred yards of the island.
 
11      The commission shall designate an area outside of Honokani`a
 
12 that will provide for safe anchorage for vessels."
 
13      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to repealed is bracketed.
 
14 New statutory material is underscored.
 
15      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
