                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO OFFENSES AGAINST THE PERSON.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 707-700, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended by amending the definition of "substantial bodily injury"
 
 3 to read as follows:
 
 4      ""Substantial bodily injury" means bodily injury which
 
 5 causes:
 
 6      (1)  A major avulsion, laceration, or penetration of the
 
 7           skin;
 
 8      (2)  A [chemical, electrical, friction, or scalding] burn of
 
 9           at least second degree severity;
 
10      (3)  A bone fracture;
 
11      (4)  A [serious] concussion; or
 
12      (5)  A tearing, rupture, or corrosive damage to the
 
13           esophagus, viscera, or other internal organs."
 
14      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
15 New statutory material is underscored.
 
16      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
