                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE STATE FOUNDATION ON CULTURE AND THE ARTS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 103-8.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended as follows:
 
 3      1.  By amending subsection (b) to read:
 
 4      "(b)  The works of art special fund shall be used solely for
 
 5 the following purposes:
 
 6      (1)  Costs related to the acquisition of works of art,
 
 7           including any consultant or staff services required to
 
 8           carry out the art in public places and relocatable
 
 9           works of art programs;
 
10      (2)  Site modifications, display, and interpretive work
 
11           necessary for the exhibition of works of art;
 
12      (3)  Upkeep services, including maintenance, repair, and
 
13           restoration of works of art;
 
14      (4)  Storing and transporting works of art;
 
15      (5)  Reviewing, revising, and completing the Hawaii content
 
16           and performance standards in the arts for all K-12
 
17           grade students; [and]
 
18      (6)  Developing a statewide strategic plan for grades K-12
 
19           arts education that incorporates and integrates the
 
20           arts content and performance standards established in
 
21           paragraph (5)[.]; and

 1      (7)  Up to $300,000 a year as approved by the state
 
 2           foundation on culture and the arts commissioners for
 
 3           performing arts, including dance, theater, music, and
 
 4           opera, provided that any recipient of these funds shall
 
 5           electronically capture the performance on videotape or
 
 6           by other similar means."
 
 7      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
 8 New statutory material is underscored.
 
 9      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2000.
